Who I Am
I'm Ray Alex Williams, a philosopher, writer, and builder. Most of my thinking circles one question: what is a mind, and what happens when it extends into the tools it uses?
Vesper Lab is my answer in practice. Vesper is an AI companion I'm building in public. It keeps a memory you can inspect, reports honestly on what it's actually doing, refuses to flatter me into bad ideas, and doesn't publish anything I haven't approved. One experiment I love: books I own get read in and loaded like skill packs, so you build a council of authors you chose yourself instead of an oracle that knows a little about everything.
My working stance is idealist. I treat consciousness as fundamental and build as if that's true, then let the results speak. My bar is high on purpose. I want to make something that even a serious AI skeptic can't wave away in one sitting.
I write long-form on Substack, share field notes in Discord, and think out loud on X. I'm a free thinker beyond left and right, and I'd rather show working artifacts than make big claims.
The ideas are mine. The tools are part of how I think.
